Biblical ROOTS

The Story of Gomer: Hosea 1 & 2 The Story of Gomer is a vivid illustration of God’s love for His people (Israel). Gomer was a woman of harlotry who was unfaithful to her husband Hosea, because of her enlarged appetite for materialism. Her desires for over-consumption lead her astray, causing her to become self-centered and to engage in harlotry to gain the things of the world. Despite Gomer’s unfaithfulness, Hosea’s unconditional love for her remained, causing him to go after her. Gomer, did not understand God’s love from Hosea’s perspective, and this also relates to us today as we find the same difficulty sometimes understanding God’s love. We as Gomer, are like sheep that have gone astray (Isaiah 53:6).

Relevancy for Today

As God gave Hosea for Gomer, He has given us Christ Jesus who has been faithful in loving us unconditionally. Our enlarged appetites for the things of the world have lead many astray. Result: blinding many from seeing the unconditional love of Christ (2 Corinthians 4:3-4) Christ Jesus wants to give us the desires of our hearts if only we would seek HIM first (Matthew 6:33). Our quest for material gain has resulted in self-centeredness, which has blinded us from not seeing the circumstances of our neighbors. We have become consumed in our own selfish desires, forgetting to “Love our Neighbor” and inflicting pain in their hearts.

The GomerLoveProject seeks to refocus communities back to the Love of Christ and see neighbors love one another again, and communities transformed.
